“This project has given me a great insight into public realm regeneration and highlighted the contribution that it can make to the vitality of a town centre. My involvement has also given me a better understanding of value engineering, which was essential for the feasibility of the scheme going forwards.’’

Key Challenges

  • Keeping the design proposals within budget, creating a scheme that is attractive to all stakeholders.

What we did

Coreus worked alongside Hydrock and LHC to develop a scheme design for a Chard Public Realm enhancement. The project is part of a wider scheme by South Somerset District Council to regenerate Chard town centre and improve connectivity.

The scheme involves improving the look and feel of the town to attract visitors and new businesses. The team have developed a RIBA Stage 3 design and our cost consultants have worked to keep the proposals in line with the budget. This involved the provision of value engineering to ensure that the scheme was financially viable and offer SSDC a range of design proposals with varying associated costs. Having an office in Chard has allowed us to take a hands on approach with the project and become heavily involved.
